8 events. on the clock.Apparatus Ready is how you train for the day you take it.
Most candidates train for the CPAT off a forum post and a PDF somebody scanned in 2019. This is the whole test written out from the IAFF and IAFC manual, event by event, with the standard you are actually measured against, plus a log that remembers what you did and an EMT practice bank for the written side.
The reference is open. No account, no email, no paywall on the part that tells you what the test is.
Train at your own risk. This training is strenuous. Talk to a physician before you start, build up gradually, stop if something hurts, and do not train in gear alone. You take part at your own risk, on the terms linked at the bottom of this page.
What is inside
Six surfaces, and the CPAT, CPR and knots reference is open to read right now with no account and no email address.
Training log and streak
Log a session, check in for the day, and keep a streak. The log is the record you actually look back through when you want to know what you did in the last month.
Gear checklist
What to bring and what to wear, tracked with a real status per item rather than a list you read and forget.
EMT practice questions
A practice bank written from published standards, plus a timed adaptive sitting that starts easy and works toward your level.
Progress and records
Domain mastery, trend, and your current form measured against your own previous four weeks. Your numbers, not a leaderboard.
CPR reference
Compression rate (100 to 120 compressions per minute), depth, ratio, and the steps in order, with the age variations set out separately instead of buried in a footnote.
Read the CPR guideFire service knots
12 knots and hitches with what each one is actually for on the fireground, not a generic scouting list.

What the test involves, and what this app is and is not.
- How long is the CPAT?
- The overall time limit is 10:20. The stair climb is the first event and its three minutes count toward that total, so the clock is already running for everything after it. The 20 second warm-up on the StepMill before the stair climb is not timed.
- What are the CPAT events?
- There are 8, completed back to back with no rest beyond the 85 foot walk between stations: Stair Climb, Hose Drag, Equipment Carry, Ladder Raise and Extension, Forcible Entry, Search, Rescue, Ceiling Breach and Pull.
- What do you wear for it?
- a 50 lb weighted vest, plus a 25 lb shoulder load during the stair climb. The vest is supplied by the test site. It stands in for turnout gear and an SCBA rather than being either of them.
- Is Apparatus Ready affiliated with the CPAT or the NREMT?
- No. Apparatus Ready is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of them. The CPAT is administered by third parties, and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians is a separate organisation. This is an independent training app built by Bottle Blue LLC.
- Are the practice questions real exam questions?
- No, and they could not honestly be. Every question is written from published standards. Anyone offering real items is describing something they should not have.
- What does it cost?
- Free to start. There is a paid tier for the full feature set, and no card is needed to make an account and look around.
